Who we are
Laterbase is made by Landscape Ventures Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 12742304), at 86–90 Paul Street, 3rd Floor, London EC2A 4NE. We are the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us about privacy at hello@laterbase.ai.
This policy covers the Laterbase apps for Mac and iPhone, the Laterbase cloud (including connecting your AI agents), published pages, and this website.
What we keep, and why
Your account
Your email address, which is how you sign in (we send you a one-time code; there are no passwords). If you use shared spaces or publish a space, the name, @username, photo and short bio you choose for your profile. We use these to give you an account and to show who's who in spaces you share. Our legal basis is providing the service you asked for (contract).
What you save
Everything you put into Laterbase: tasks, reminders, events, notes, links, documents, pictures and files, what you dictate, the spaces it belongs to, and the history of changes to each thing. This is the point of Laterbase, so we keep it for as long as you have an account (contract).
- On your Mac, everything is stored locally, in Laterbase's folder in your Library. It works offline.
- In the cloud, a copy is kept so your Mac and iPhone stay in step and so connected agents can reach it. Each account can only read its own copy.
- Things Laterbase recognises as sensitive (a password or a bank detail, say) are kept away from your agents, from search by meaning, from connecting things together and from published pages. They are still stored and synced like everything else.
How Laterbase reads what you save
To work out what each thing is, where it belongs and when it matters, the words of what you save are sent to AI models that run on our behalf. Pictures are sent to be read for their words, dictation is sent to be turned into text, and short summaries of things are turned into numbers (embeddings) so they can be found by meaning. When you save a link, your Mac or iPhone fetches the page itself to read its title and details; when an agent saves a link, our cloud fetches it.
We don't use what you save to train AI models, and we only send it to AI providers to get an answer back for you, under their terms for business customers. The providers are listed below.
Your agents
If you connect an AI agent (such as Claude or ChatGPT), we keep the connection, the access you gave it, and a record of what it read, searched, added and ticked off, so you can see it in Laterbase and turn it off. What an agent reads from your Laterbase is then handled by that agent's provider under their own privacy terms, not ours.
Sharing and publishing
If you share a space, its members see what's in it and who added it, and may get email updates with the titles of new things. If you publish a space, anyone with the link can see the snapshot you published, with your name and photo unless you turn them off. Published pages ask search engines not to index them, and we count their views per day without cookies.
Usage and crash reports (Mac)
The Mac app sends us anonymous usage events (which features are used, with short labels), its build and macOS version, and crash reports, so we can find and fix problems. These never include what you've saved. They're on by default and you can turn them off in Settings (legitimate interests). The iPhone app doesn't send these.
Feedback
If you send us feedback from the app, we receive what you wrote with your email address, the build and the page you were on.
Emails
We send sign-in codes, invitations, welcome emails and, if you share spaces, activity updates. We keep a log of the emails we send. You can turn off updates from any email or in Settings.
The waitlist and invitations
If you joined the waitlist or were invited, we keep your email address, when and where you joined, and any note about the invitation.
Keeping Laterbase safe
To prevent abuse we briefly keep a hashed form of your IP address or account when you hit a rate limit, and delete it within two days.
This website
This site uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts. Its fonts and images are served from our own address.
Who helps us run Laterbase
These companies process data for us, only to provide Laterbase and under contracts that require them to protect it. We don't sell personal data, and we don't share it with advertisers.
| Who | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database for the cloud copy, sign-in, file storage, sharing | EU (AWS, Ireland) |
| Cloudflare | Runs our cloud and this site, sends our emails, runs some AI models (embeddings, and back-up models for filing, pictures, dictation and connecting) | Global network; our cloud is placed in Ireland |
| TypeSafe AI | The model that decides what a thing is and where it goes | [confirm] |
| OpenAI | Turning dictation into text | USA |
| Reading pictures, and as a back-up for connecting things | USA | |
| Apple | TestFlight and the App Store; maps for places you save | USA |
| Amore | Delivering Mac app updates | [confirm] |
| Vercel | Forwarding requests from an older address to our cloud (being retired) | USA |
| Google Workspace | Our email inbox, if you write to us | USA |
When you save a book, the Mac app looks up its cover on Open Library by title. When you save a link, the website behind it sees a normal request for the page. When paid plans arrive, payments will be handled by [payment provider], and we won't see your full card details.
Some of these providers are outside the UK and EU. Where data goes there, we rely on the UK's International Data Transfer Addendum and the EU's Standard Contractual Clauses, or an adequacy decision, to protect it.
How we protect it
- Everything travels encrypted (TLS), and the cloud copy and files are encrypted at rest by our providers.
- Each account can only read its own data; agents only reach it through our checks, with the access you gave them.
- Device keys are stored only as one-way hashes.
- The cloud copy isn't end-to-end encrypted: our servers have to read it to file, search and sync your things. We only look at an account's content when you ask us to help, or when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Your account and what you save: until you delete your account.
- Things you delete: removed from your devices straight away, and marked deleted in the cloud copy. They're erased from our servers when you delete your account, or within [number] days.
- Usage and crash reports, and the email log: up to [number] months.
- Rate-limit records: two days.
- Waitlist and invitations: until Laterbase opens to everyone, or until you ask us to remove you.
- Our providers' backups roll off on their own schedule, within [number] days.
Deleting your account (in Settings, on your Mac or iPhone) revokes your devices and agents, erases your files and deletes your cloud copy and profile. What's stored on your Mac stays there until you remove the app's folder; signing out on iPhone clears it from the phone.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to have it in a format you can take elsewhere. Write to hello@laterbase.ai and we'll reply within a month. You can also change most things yourself: edit or delete anything you've saved, hide spaces from agents, change or remove an agent's access, turn off usage reports and email updates, and delete your account.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.
Children
Laterbase isn't meant for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly keep data about them. If you think a child has an account, tell us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and if the change matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
